Houstonettes '62

"Here they come! The high-stepping Houstonettes of Sam Houston High School!" These familiar words are spoken at every footbal half-time just before some 150 Houstonettes march out and execute their precision drills. But drilling at football games is not all these hard-working girls do. They march at the Shriner's Ball and parades, sell poppies on Veteran's Day, sell magazines to buy their uniforms, usher at Open House, cheer at other school activities, and their Flag Corps puts out the student directory. However, it's not all work and no play for the Houstonettes. At their annual Mother-Daughter Banquet, the seniors receive their sweaers, a reward for three years of hard work. But the highlight of the special season for the Houstonettes and other students of Sam Houston is the Stardust Ball at which the Houstonette Honey is crowned.
